“I think I am in a trap, always. I sometimes desperately wish that I could write like someone else, be someone else.”
In this avant-garde play, ‘Listen, You Can Hear the Sound of No Hands Clapping’, a number of disturbed historical and fictional figures from different periods in history find themselves in the London pub, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese. This unusual mix of disparate and desperate characters struggle to come to terms with history’s and literature’s treatment of themselves. Through their torment, a tragic metaphorical avant-garde performance of John Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost’ takes place.
Performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2019. Received 4.5* from The Derek Awards.
